About seven years ago, about a year after my third baby, life suddenly hit me very, very hard. I have always struggled a little with my health, mainly chronic fatigue, allergies, and gluten intolerance. And I have responded by living as clean and healthy a lifestyle as possible, with great results! But that year, one day out of nowhere, my health started to suddenly decline. I couldn’t eat anything without terrible stomach pain, fatigue, joint pain and symptoms of intestinal ulceration. With a little Dr. Googl-ing, I soon realized I had Ulcerative Colitis. Shortly thereafter, a visit to my functional medicine doctor and a GI specialist confirmed my self-diagnosis.
We were all stumped, however. I have no family history, I had been in great health, and I was very fit. All tests came back negative for the normal culprits such as SIBO, Lyme, mold, etc. I was already gluten free, juicing, and eating a very clean and nourishing diet. I still don’t know exactly what could have happened, except that we are all dealing with a bit of a toxic soup in our food supply, air, and water. Perhaps it was just my turn to take a hit.
That said, I did slowly, and in the face of my conventional doctor laughing at me, figure out how to put the ulcerative colitis almost completely and totally into remission (without the toxic drugs my GI insisted I would need). A huge part of my success came from CBD oil. And, ultimately, not just any CBD oil, but our own Venerable Aubert Herbals CBD oil!
Briefly, I tried many autoimmune diets, strictly, and supplement protocols and some alternative therapies with almost no success. I was losing weight, in pain, and had to keep rotating my foods as I would quickly sensitize to each new food as I tried it. With prayer, I became convinced I heard God nudge me toward two therapies in particular which I had found through my many hours of health research: Low Dose Naltrexone, which is also amazing for autoimmune, Lyme, mood disorders, and so much more. At first, I tried a CBD brand that was made from a lab-produced hemp extract powder. That product, so much inferior to our own, somehow worked in a way nothing else had even approached. It was a subtle thing, like a light dimmer quite suddenly dimmed down. The weird stomach pains, the joint pain, even some unrelated neurological symptoms and the floaters in front of my eyes (another unusual symptom that had appeared with the UC) would just dim. It was fairly immediate and very noticeable, but subtle.
I kept paying monthly for that $100 bottle. It was worth the relief, however mild. But, it still left many symptoms unresolved, if dimmed down. So, after a while, my husband turned to me and said, “you’re so good at researching things and creating things, I bet you could make a better and stronger CBD than this one.” Meanwhile for anyone who has read the letters of St Zelie, I also kept hearing God say, I believed, “See about Making CBD oil.” The same thing God had said to St Zelie that prompted her to start making a business selling Aleçon lace.
It took us several years to get to the level of potency and purity that we ensure is in every bottle of Venerable Aubert oil today. Research started us off, but it’s taken so much more to get us here. Rounds and rounds of testing. Working with many different kinds of flower and many different suppliers. Trying out different methods, temperatures, cycles, and formulas. Now, CBD doesn’t just slightly dim down the light switch of my autoimmunity, instead it flips it right off. I have no symptoms when regularly using my Venerable Aubert’s.
